Last Call For Summer

The inspiration for the style of this poem came from a book called Seward Soundboard by Sean Ulman. His abrupt, lyrical style forces the reader to slow down and carefully consider the implications and placement of every single word. I'm grateful to come across such a gem of a novel by some form of chance @ 13 Ravens Coffee & Books in Seward, Alaska.

Wandering wild, winter-ready streets.

People pressed, poised, pointedly reflecting on Summer's conclusion.

Mountains mounting dared defiance of the cold months ahead.

The sun selflessly shines surely to dazzle one last time.

Anchorage awakens aiming to articulate Fall blessings.

A silent stroll down Tudor stresses shimmering wonderment.

The Chugach is alive and ready to unveil its undying glory.

Sun stricken, dappled pinpoint peaks placed purposefully here.

Dazzling bright white almost celestial courted countenance.

Contrasted cordially with deepening, darkening, sly shadows.

Easy on the face, warmth radiates in abundance for a short while.

Clouds close condescendingly, robbing light from reaching exposed skin.

A lingering, lustful, loving, last call for days warmer and longer.

All relatively relational.

In southcentral Alaska, clouds carry casual greetings not far behind the rays.

Savor the penetrating light that marks the season.

Until the next one.......

And the next thereafter.......
