Erected out of glistening marble
Muted by the perpetual forces of time and the desert wind,
Forever poised and ready to defend.
A mother and son,
Their origin shrouded in obscurity.
A scheme to sell desert land perhaps
Wonder aloud, but question not the strange manifestations of the Mojave.
Vigilant in the midst of the adversarial elements,
The twin figures near the highway appear resolute.
The mother road draws travelers far and wide,
Harkening to a time of relative prosperity.
They preside over this stretch of mostly intact desert wilderness
Unwavering in their assigned duty,
Unmatched in their foresight and prestige.
Place a cherished object at the base of either
For the promise of safe travels in this harsh landscape.
The Guardians of the Mojave
Rearing with pride.
A regal presence,
In a land of little rain.
