Wildflowers of the Carrizo Plain

Apologies for any incorrect identifications/classifications. I did not yet have a ready way of accomplishing this task in the field. Also apparent are my fledgling editing skills and mid-tier camera lens. I think there are some gems though! I've never before (or since) experienced such diversity in native wildflower blooms in a single Spring as this instance on the Carrizo Plain in March/April of 2019. It was a display beyond that which could be adequately described in words. To this day I remain awestruck, and vow to make it back whenever the rare opportunity arises once more.

Interior Bush Lupine overlooking the Carrizo Plain from the Caliente Mountains. Also with Selby or KCL campground in the foreground.

Close up of Interior Bush Lupine in the Calientes! Honestly my favorite.

Broader perspective of Interior Bush Lupine overlooking the vast, green plain. This did not feel like the California I've ever known.

The hills came alive with wildflowers as if divinely brushed with pastel colors. Off of highway 58 or an adjacent road leading into the monument.

Out of focus Purple Owl's-Clover in the foreground, Common Hillside Daisies surrounding.

Purple Owl's-Clover, Common Hillside Daisies, Distant Phacelia (light purple).

Common or Douglas' Fiddlenecks for days overlooking the very full Soda Lake ( I got my boot stuck in the muck).

A carpet of Common Hillside Daisies watching over a dramatic sunset.

Countless Common Hillside Daisies. It was truly mind-melting!

Common Hillside Daisy mixed with Distant Phacelia? looking up towards camp in the Temblors (East side of the monument).

Looking down the mouth of a canyon in the Temblor Range as the sun set.

Common Hillside Daisy near 2nd camp in the Temblor Range. Top 3 overlook of a lifetime!

Great Valley Phacelia as far as one can imagine, literally carpeting the valley with the San Andreas Fault and Temblor Range nearby.

Great Valley Phacelia mixed with an unknown wildflower near Elkhorn Road.

Perspective of me hiding in Fiddleneck to avoid arousing the suspicion of the cows.

Great Valley Phacelia for daysssssssss.

What I think the closest thing to "painted hills" could be.

Great Valley Phacelia close-up!

Common Hillside Daisies stretching into infinity (and perhaps beyond) off of Soda Lake Road.

A ridge blanketed in Common Hillside Daisy with the valley/plain shrouded in thick fog.

Honestly surprised no storms rolled in on us the entire weekend. The weather was all over the place on an abnormally wet year by SoCal standards.

Baby Blue Eyes on the valley floor.

Elkhorn Road (or a close offshoot) leading into the Temblor Range.

More Great Valley Phacelia!

Common Hillside Daisy close-up.
