Broadway & Lime

Broadway & Lime

At the intersection of friendship and memory

Time shifts the makeup of the storefronts

Roscoe's seems to hold on just fine

That new skyscraper sure is somethin' to behold

The Shoreline Gateway they call it

Tallest in the city

In rarefied air

Where dreams are far more than a chance encounter

A height fit for immersion into the Soul of the World

The beating heart of Long Beach

A city to call home, to be from

With pride despite the obvious flaws

Saying goodbye to people and places is never easy to do

At the end of it all I fade into the night

Meditating on a beach

Palms flat on the sand

The waves murmuring as they always do

Everything is more or less the same

Save for the knowledge that this is one last time

At least for a while

Chasing dreams and desires has its terms

Not giving up sometimes means moving on

Chapters of life closing and opening

Visiting memories is necessary for a while

To bridge the gap in belonging

Until life interjects and the next step is clear

Express gratitude towards what is comforting and familiar

While leaping, unquestioning, into the unknown

For when all days are no longer the same

Life truly begins

And this is the greatest moment of all

The moment before it all starts
